
9:FISH AND BLACK SURFING ASSOCIATION 5TH Annual Soul Surf Classic Amateur Surf Competition
April 8th, 2008 (Santa Monica, CA) – 9:Fish Surfboards, the makers of
"Neo-Retro" fish-style surfboards that catch more waves, and the BlackSurfing Association (BSA), promoters of inner city and minoritysurfing have teamed up to organize the 5th annual soul surf amateurcompetition and "Fam Jam" starting Sunday May 4th, 2008 at 7:00amsharp at Leo Carillo State Beach (Secos) in Malibu, CA. A new part of this year's contest is a "Twin Fin Fish" event for
surfers to showcase their skills outside the traditional long andshort board standard events. "9:Fish boards don't fit theconventional mold, so of course we are excited to put on anon-conventional surf contest," said Wes Negus, Co-Founder of 9:fishSurfboards. "We are really pleased to work with the BSA to organizesuch a positive event." The BSA has long been promoting surfing amongyouth and inner city kids in order to bring attention to minoritieswithin the sport and to help prepare surfers to eventually compete atthe pro level. The competition will display the talents of over 60 contestants with
around 400 spectators. The registration fee is $25 in advance and $35day-of. Throughout the day, various twin fin fish, long and shortboard heats will last 15 minutes each, with 20 minute final rounds.Food, music and various sponsor tents will also be at the beach,creating a fun environment for spectators.
