David R. Olan, Esq. is the founder of the Association of Surfing Lawyers (ASL). David started surfing in his late teens and while in law school he found surfing to be a solace to the pressures of law. While practicing law David realized how many of his colleagues surfed and many informal "board meetings" were held in the water until the Association of Surfing Lawyers had its inaugural meeting in June 2002, at Marix Tex Mex in Santa Monica, California.
The Association of Surfing Lawyers aims to foster good will, ASL travels to exotic surf locations and holds meetings, beach parties, and events throughout the year. The Association of Surfing Lawyers also offers continuing education courses and is State Bar and MCLE approved. ASL has over 200 active members throughout the United States including New York, Florida, San Diego, Orange County and additional chapters in San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Sydney, and Western Australia. David Olan resides in Malibu, California where he enjoys the local surf and surf spots along the Southern California coast line. He travels extensively to surf locations around the world and particularly enjoys surfing in Australia and New Zealand (where his wife, Sharon Olan is originally from). David is the President of the Olan Law Corporation located in Brentwood, California, representing plaintiffs in all capacities of personal injury and entertainment law. David was born in 1962 in Hollywood, California and grew up largely in Los Angeles and then Orinda, California. He graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1989. |

An avid surfer and environmentalist, David Olan formed the Association of Surfing Lawyers with the help of founding members, Rick Barron, Richard Hamar, Grant Hardacre, Debbie Jones and Dan Brookman.
